Our guides, facilities, and land is all there for your experience. The stories, the sounds of nature, the wildlife and bird settings, the thrill of flying in a helicopter or fixed-wing plane, is all there to experience whether you like to fish, observe nature, or test your outdoor skills; it is all there for you.

If you want to see old historic spots we have them for you. If you'd like to see some natural beauty, we have deltas, rivers, Salt Plains, sinkholes, karstlands and a variety of birds and wildlife. The Dene people of this land, as your guides, will insure your safety and peace of mind knowing that they have lived and survived here for centuries.

Day 1 (1/2 day)

  • Pick up at airport (drive riverbank road to accommodation)
1:00 p.m.
  • Orientation
3:00 p.m.
  • Visit Wood Buffalo National Park Visitor's Information Centre (watch slideshow)
4:00 p.m.
  • Visit Northern Life Museum
5:00 p.m.
  • Drive out to Thebacha campsite
6:00 p.m.
  • Dinner of wild meat, fish and berries
7:00 p.m.
  • Boat ride on the Slave River (return to accommodation)

Day 2

7:00 a.m.
  • Breakfast
9:00 a.m.
  • Travel into Wood Buffalo National Park (Salt Plains, hike to salt mounds, experince the salt plains, birds and wildlife)
12:00 p.m.
  • Lunch at Salt Plains overview
1:00 p.m.
  • Canoe on the Salt River (Thebacha campsite to Slave River)
5:00 p.m.
  • Return to Thebacha campsite for cookout
7:00 p.m.
  • Round of golf and free time
10:00 p.m.
  • Return to accommodation

Day 3

8:00 a.m.
  • Breakfast
9:00 a.m.
  • Helicopter excursion over Slave River Rapids
11:00 a.m.
  • Flyout fishing to Donovan Lake
12:00 p.m.
  • Shore lunch
1:00 p.m.
  • Fishing - 'catch & release'
4:00 p.m.
  • Return to town
5:00 p.m.
  • Drive to Fort Fitzgerald for a traditional cultural experience, including supper
9:00 p.m.
  • Return to town accommodation

Day 4

  • Breakfast
9:00 a.m.
  • Flyout over Slave River, Peace-Athabasca Delta, Wood Buffalo National Park to Fort Chipewyan
11:00 a.m.
  • Visit Fort Chipewyan, Alberta'a oldest community and their Heritage Museum
1:00 p.m.
  • Lunch at the Fort Chipewyan Lodge overlooking Lake Athasbasca
2:00 p.m.
  • Flight back to Fort Smith following the Slave River
4:00 p.m.
  • Free time
6:00 p.m.
  • Dinner cookout at Queen Elizabeth Park
8:00 p.m.
  • Return to accommodation

Day 5

  • Breakfast
9:00 a.m.
  • Drive/hike to Mountain Rapids to see the pelicans nesting and fishing
11:00 a.m.
  • Explore the rapids
12:00 p.m.
  • Lunch at Pelican Rapids
1:00 p.m.
  • Drive to Fort Fitzgerald, a boat ride across Slave River and up the Dog River
5:00 p.m.
  • Return to Fort Fitzgerald to experience a traditional cookout at the cultural centre
8:00 p.m.
  • Return to accommodation

Day 6 (1/2 day)

8:00 a.m.
  • Breakfast
9:00 p.m.
  • Boat ride on the Slave River to experience the natural beauty and watch the pelicans fishing in the rapids
10:30 a.m.
  • Return to accommodation to prepare for departure
12:00 p.m.
  • Go to airport for departure south
